Parker’s Alley in Detroit created an authentic streetscape using reclaimed street brick pavers.
Shinola Hotel Project Details
The Shinola Hotel, located in the heart of the Detroit, Michigan’s historic Woodward shopping district, is a 129-room boutique hotel. The Shinola brand is rooted in celebrating the appreciation of quality products and experiences and has an unwavering commitment to making lasting things. The world’s first Shinola Hotel is branded as Detroit’s new living room and includes specially curated onsite shopping options line “Parker’s Alley". Adjacent to the hotel, Parker’s Alley is a retail and dining destination whose name is an homage to one of the city’s first black landowner, Thomas Parker. Now the enclave is home to several outlets, a mix of global brands and local, female-owned businesses. Parker’s Alley is how we at Experienced Brick and Stone got involved in the project.
Herringbone Pattern Installation of Parker’s Alley
Staying true to the Shinola brand, Parker’s Alley used 5,400 square feet of our high-quality reclaimed street brick pavers. Salvaged products are a durable, one-of-a-kind feature that created an authentic sense of place for the development project. The project decided on the Jamestown Rustic street brick paver installed in a herringbone pattern. As seen in the photo below, the install contractor created a mock-up of the alley for the owners to review and approve before continuing with the rest of the walkway. These 100-year-old reclaimed bricks found new life with this project and will now serve as the main thoroughfare for tourists and shoppers. The project also included a snow melt system for the antique brick installation!

A Transformational Project for the Community
Parker’s Alley has made a huge difference to the downtown Detroit retail, dining and tourism markets. The Shinola brand has continued to live up to its high standards with this project, creating an environment with historical character by installing antique, genuine used materials. Experienced Brick and Stone is thrilled to find developers and projects like this so we can repurpose historic materials and contribute to the character of the communities we serve. If you’re ever traveling through Detroit, make Parker’s Alley and the Shinola Hotel a stop on your way!
