Built in 1897 to house a meat market, it’s life as a tavern began with Benjamin and Edna Mulligan in 1933, shortly after Prohibition ended. It gained prominence as a “floor show” venue in the 1930s and 1940s, then transitioned to showcasing country and western performers in the 1950s and 1960s. The bar truly flourished in the 1970s under the ownership of Michael Militello and Bennett Kell, becoming a legendary spot with long lines. The bar was tragically destroyed by fire in January 2025.
